Dr. Don C. Locke

Dr. Locke has had a career as a social studies teacher, school counselor, and a distinguished professor. He has attained numerous awards and accolades such as recipient of the Professional Development Award from the American Counseling Association (1996) and the Professional Recognition Award from the American Counseling Association Foundation (1998). He has also served in various capacities such as professor and head of the department of the Counseling Education program at North Carolina State University in Raleigh and President of the Association of Counseling Education and Supervision to name a few. However, his work in researching diverse groups is of particular interest.

  • He is the author or co-author of more than 100 publications, with a thematic focus on multicultural issues. His 1992 book, Increasing Multicultural Understanding, was a Sage Publications Best Seller, and the second edition was released in 1998. He is currently completing the third edition to be released in 2013.
  • The second edition of Psychological Techniques for Teachers was published in 1995. His co-authored book, Culture and Diversity Issues in Counseling, was published in 1996. He is co-editor of The Handbook of Counseling, published in 2001.

As a keynote speaker, Dr. Locke will address the relationship between counseling and social justice.
