CCD Employer Relations Coordinator

Employer Relations Coordinator 
Career Development Center

RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position reports directly to the Career Development Coordinator and will 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employers to establish part-time and full-time jobs, internships, informational interviewing, and other experiential learning opportunities for CCD students
  • Manage "Career Connections," an online job posting and record-keeping system, including data and report management and training new users on the system. 
  • Organize and implement job fairs, on-campus interview days, job shadowing programs, and employer networking events 
  • Serve as a primary liaison to other Community College of Denver offices related to employment, including academic departments, CCD Workforce Team, employer relations boards, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) departments
  • Provide support for strategic marketing for all Career Development Center programs, including materials for employers and writing website content
  • Advise students and deliver presentations on job readiness skills, such as resume/cover letters, job search strategies, networking, interviewing, and other relevant topics
  • Assist with Career Development Center events, programs, and duties as assigned by the Career Development Coordinator
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant area with combined 1-3 years experience in recruitment, human resources, business, workforce development, or related area 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of job and internship development, training, recruitment, labor market trends, and/or career development theory
  • Experience developing, implementing, and conducting career programs and workshops 
  • Excellent communication, organizational, time management, assessment, and planning skills
  • Proficiency in database management, MS Office programs, and use of the Internet
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Counseling, Career Counseling, College Student Personnel, Human Resources, Business, or related area 
  • Professional associations and connections to industries, employers, or organizations in the Greater Denver area 
  • Experience in developing marketing or web-based content for student and employer audiences
  • Demonstrated budget management and revenue generation experience
  • Experience working with multi-cultural and/or college student populations
  • Bilingual (Spanish-English)
       SALARY:  Salary placement will be determined by education and experience.

Position Description

The Department of Biology at Colorado State University is establishing an Academic Support Center to promote student retention and success through a variety of advising and program activities designed to assist students in making critical transitions, developing academic plans, connecting with campus majors and resources, and engaging with learning and developing learning communities. The Academic Support Center will emphasize and enhance students' abilities and assets and will support the campus priority for a diverse and supportive learning environment.

The Department of Biology is seeking two Academic Support Coordinators who will play a significant role in strengthening departmental efforts to provide quality advising and promote undergraduate student success. Both coordinators will be full time, regular, administrative professional positions. These positions will support an innovative and holistic approach to providing students with the assistance, guidance and resources necessary to be successful. The primary functions of the Academic Support Coordinators will be to foster successful transition to the university environment by students in their initial semesters, to promote appropriate choice of majors, and encourage timely graduation.

The Academic Support Coordinators, in collaboration with faculty, will play a critical role in promoting undergraduate student success. The Academic Support Coordinators will work directly with students majoring in Biological Sciences, Botany and Zoology to foster their academic success by developing, implementing and monitoring an action plan for graduation. The Academic Support Coordinators will work closely with the Associate Chair for Undergraduate Programs and other advising staff, and will report to the Biology Department Chair.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • One or more years of professional experience working with students in a higher education setting to provide academic advising, and/or conducting student development activities such as orientation, multicultural affairs, residence life, and career services
Desired:
  • Excellent communication skills, including interpersonal communication, presentation, writing and computer skills
  • Demonstrated awareness and understanding of issues facing students from underrepresented groups, experience with students from diverse backgrounds, and commitment to diversity
  • Educational background in science coursework, especially Biology, Botany or Zoology
  • Self-motivated team player with demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast paced work environment
SALARY: $30,000 - $33,000 (plus benefits)

START DATE: August 1, 2010

RESPONSIBILITIES
Advising/Counseling
  • Advise students on academic requirements, scheduling classes, and administrative procedures related to academics
  • Advise transfer students at Next Step Orientations, reviewing transfer evaluations to clarify and recommend any needed reevaluations
  • Assist students to improve GPA's and overcome academic difficulties
  • Guide students in preparing to enter health professions and gain admittance to professional and graduate schools
  • Counsel students and alumni on career planning including career exploration, decision-making, preparation, and job search
Biology and Zoology Clubs
  • Assist coordination of meetings, activities, and field trips
  • Internships
  • Assist with department efforts to expand internship opportunities and monitor success
  • Presentations
  • Give presentations on various topics for various events and groups on campus, ie. Ram Welcome
  • Administrative Tasks
  • Help maintain written biology curriculum rules and department processes and update changes on the Biology Department Website
  • Help keep information and links on the Biology Department website current
  • Document appointment notes on Aries Web
  • Assist with students on academic probation
  • Assist with oversight of RAM CT PEAK program for probation students
  • Send emails on advising services and information as needed
  • Write letters of recommendation for students
Outreach
  • Coordinate requested visits including class attendance, etc. for prospective high school and transfer students
  • Represent the department at various outreach events
  • Give tours and advise potential Biology students for Admissions
Professional Development/Training
  • Continue to improve and develop skills through CSU advisor, computer, and university training as well as NACADA, NCDA, and CCDA training/conferences

We are currently seeking a Director of Career and Alumni Services

Lead department providing career development and related services for on-ground and online students. Develop and execute programs and initiatives designed to place a high number of students and graduates in the field of art and design. Responsible for staff development and training. Directly responsible for ensuring that high quality supports for student and alumni career development are accessible and well utilized. Counsel students and alumni on career and job placement. Ensure that the College has effective and positive relationships with leading industry professionals for ample job and internship placement opportunities. Actively participate in College strategic planning and student success initiatives. Contributes to Student Success divisional outcomes and initiatives. Lead and implement departmental assessment practices to ensure quality and valid outcomes for students and graduates.

Provide ongoing and timely career resources for students and graduates. Ensure that career development resources are applicable and relevant for the industry standards. Actively monitor and report on career placement of graduates and develop initiatives to maximize placement.

Develop and implement programs designed to facilitate early connections between students and their career as a tool for student success. Work with faculty and staff to ensure that all students have pertinent career connections.
Oversee Alumni Services including career services for alumni and alumni communications. Provide information to other departments, as needed, about the alumni to assist with programming and event planning.

Provide support to departmental staff implementing the internship program. Ensure that internship opportunities are providing meaningful and professional experiences for students. As needed, oversee growth of the internship program, in conjunction with the Associate Director of Career and Alumni Services.

Oversee exit process for graduating students and develop strategies for effective transition into the work force.
Supervise Career and Alumni Services staff, currently 1 Associate Director and work study support staff, including strategic planning for the department and implementing new initiatives. Manage the Career and Alumni Services budget.
Remain current in career planning and placement trends through active participation in appropriate professional associations and related events.
Maintain confidentiality of information and satisfactory working relationships with managers, co-workers, and others. Collaborate with appropriate colleagues as necessary in delivery of general student services. Participate on appropriate committee assignments. Keep a positive, helpful, and solution oriented demeanor when responding to or serving students, faculty, administration, and visitors. Maintain strong professional relationships with faculty and staff.

Education:
A Bachelors degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field is required and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired. An MA is preferred.

Experience:
A minimum of 3 years experience in career counseling or other related field is required, preferably in higher education. Two plus years of progressively responsible experience in continuing education, higher education or adult education is preferred. Supervisory and/or departmental leadership experience is required. Experience leading or working with an alumni association is preferred. Experience providing career counseling for both on-ground and on-line students/clients is preferred. Experience and familiarity working with the Denver Arts community is preferred.

Skills:
Ability to work effectively with persons at all levels of the College and to represent the College professionally in the community. Strong oral, written communication skills and sound interpersonal skills. Proven leadership ability. Computer knowledge required. Know how to calculate basic statistics on job placements, numbers, and percentages as well as testing those statistics.

Job Summary

The Josef Korbel School of International Studies (JKSIS) at the University of Denver is recruiting for the Director of Career and Professional Development. This position provides strategic direction for and manages overall operations of a comprehensive career and professional development office including staff management, technology systems, resource and budget development. It directs employer development efforts both domestically and internationally and directs the required internship program for the graduate degrees serving over 170 students per year. It also oversees and distributes interest earnings from endowed funds for international internships, conducts extensive alumni and employer development, works with multiple stakeholders internally (i.e. Admissions, Student Affairs, Alumni) and externally (employers, associations). Provides career coaching to students and recent graduates. Develops and manages programs including Professionals in Residence, professional skill development series, career development courses, and career connections programs (DC, NYC, Boston). Implements and manages employment and internship assessment and tracking processes. Develops, implements, and oversees technology systems including (Korbelcareers, alumni and student tracking systems).

Preferred Qualifications

-Broad experience in two of the following sectors: nonprofit/ngo, corporate and/or government/academia.
-MBTI trained; knowledge of international affairs field.
-Experience supervising students and entry to senior level staff.
-Experience providing career coaching in either a higher education, corporate or nonprofit setting.

Minimum Qualifications
These qualifications refer to education and/or experience.

-MA in Human Resources, Education, International Education, International Affairs or related field.
-7 to 10 years of experience in a combination of the following: career coaching, recruiting and staffing, marketing, student advising, training and alumni relations.
-Five years of supervisory experience.
-Experience working with multicultural and/or international groups.
